Variable-speed friction gearing.- Relates to friction disc gearing in which the shaft d of the driven friction roller c is carried at one or both ends by a lever f pivoted at f<2> in a frame a carrying the gear. The lower end of the lever is acted upon by a spring g connected to a plunger h the travel of which is limited by lock nuts h<1>, h<2>. The normal pressure of the roller c against the driving disc b is adjusted by means of the nuts h<1> while the nuts h<2> limit the extra temporary pressure which may be applied when required by a hand wheel k acting through a cable i.
