990,223. Clutch control. P. G. TACCHI. Aug. 25, 1960 [June 17, 1960], No. 21276/60. Headings F2C and F2L. [Also in Division B7] A driving arrangement for a lightweight vehicle comprises a clutch at each driven wheel operatively connected to the steering mechanism of the vehicle so as to cause the appropriate clutch to be disengaged when the vehicle is turning. The vehicle, Fig. 1, which may have handlebar or steering wheel controlled steering, has a drive system comprising an internalcombustion engine 12, a conventional clutch and gear unit 13, propelled shaft 14 and fixed ratio gear unit 15, 16, driving a shaft 10 upon which the wheels 11 are rotatably mounted. Each wheel 11, Fig. 2, is rotatably mounted upon the shaft 10 by a hub 19 integral with a brake drum 20, a disconnectible coupling between the shaft 10 and brake drum 20 being provided by a member 25 having pins 28 engaging holes 23 in the brake drum and being retractable against the pressure of a spring 37 along splines 24 by a yoke member 30 connected to a cable 32, the cable 32 connecting both wheels and passing over jockey pulleys 38 and a shaft 39 drivingly connected by a cable 40 to a steering shaft 41, whereupon rotation of the steering shaft causes inward movement of one member 25 and so disconnects the drive to that wheel.
