Abstract
942,849. Driving amphibious craft. D. W. SESSIONS. June 20, 1962 [July 7, 1961], No. 24620/61. Headings B7A and B7V. An amphibious craft has a hull 10 with a transom 1 supporting a prime mover 21 on the inside of the hull, a propeller device 23, and a transmission device, comprising a clutch 29, gear-box 30 and transverse axle 31, located below and carried by the prime mover, which prime mover has a crank-shaft disposed longitudinally of the craft, extending through the transom and driving the propeller. The propeller device 23 is mounted on the rear of the transom on a transverse axis about which it is retractably movable. The hull includes fore- and-aft road wheels 49, 40, the latter being mounted on the rear of the transom on a transverse axis about which they are retractably movable and driven by said transmission device via a brake mechanism 33, driving sprocket 34, and chain 35.
