Abstract
1,212,146. Autocycle driving gear. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. 2 April, 1969 [5 April, 1968], No. 17230/69. Heading B7H. An autocycle transmission comprises an input shaft 6 drivable from an engine 1 through a fixed- or variable-ratio belt drive, a crank axle 11 and a third shaft 16 with two fixed sprockets 26 and 29, respectively drivable by a chain wheel 17 associated with a one-way clutch 20 on the crank axle 11 and for driving a rear wheel, and a clutch wheel 28 in mesh with a pinion 27 on the input shaft 6 and able to be released rotationally from the shaft 16 by control means operated while the vehicle is at rest. The control means comprises a series of balls 36 in radial bores of the shaft 16 which are urged into engagement with seatings 37 of the clutch wheel 28 by an enlarged portion 33 of a spring urged control shaft 32 with a control knob 42 at its end. The control knob has a pair of fingers 44 (Fig. 5) and is rotatable, when the vehicle is at rest, until the fingers engage either long slots 45 of the shaft 16, when the engine drive is engaged by the balls 36, or short slots 46 when the balls are disengaged and the vehicle is propelled from the crank axle 11. The engine is started by propelling the vehicle from the crank axle 11 and free wheel 20 with the engine drive engaged.
