Abstract

151,823. McIntosh, S., and Guild, J. S. Oct. 7, 1919. Winches; driving-gear.-A windlass is fitted with a positive sliding clutch between the main driving-wheel and the cable-lifter. The adjacent side of the main driving-wheel c and the cablelifter f have polygonal recesses e, h and a correspondingly shaped sliding clutch member j. The clutch member is in constant engagement with the deeply recessed cable-lifter and is slid into engagement with the driving wheel when required by sliding rods k, collar l and the usual clutch lever m. The arrangement may be reversed by having the clutch member in constant engagement with the driving-wheel. The collar l has a polygonal flange n engaging a similarly shaped recess in the cable-lifter.
