Abstract
512,653. Winches. HULLENKREMER, F. May 8, 1939, No. 13695. [Class 78 (v)] In winches, hauling gear &c. having a friction drive comprising a driven friction wheel mounted in rotatable eccentric bearings, the friction wheel being engageable by either a driving friction wheel or by a brake shoe at will, the eccentric bearing is formed of two eccentrics 2, 5 of which one, 5, is rotatable within the other, 2. Each eccentric 2, 5 has a handle 3, 4, by the manipulation of which the driven wheel 13 can be moved away from the driving wheel 7 and into closer contact with a stationary brake shoe 6, in such a way as to prevent shock to the rope or winch. The wheel 13 may be pressed so tightly against the shoe 6 that the load is held, or may be moved away therefrom sufficiently to allow the load to fall gently. The wheel 13 and shoe 6 may be arranged to be always in contact, with greater or less pressure, and the load pull tends to maintain the contact. Duplicate eccentric bearings may be provided at the other end of the driven shaft 9, and these may be moved in unison with the bearings 2, 5, e.g., by coupling together the corresponding handles 3 and 4.
