Abstract

218,362. Mitchell, F. G. March 27, 1923. Overhead travellers.-In self-contained travelling power hoists working on telpher systems of the kind in which the over-all height of the track is reduced by arranging the reduction driving-gear inside the hoisting drum, so that the motor can be located close to its associated drum, worm reduction gearing, preferably selfholding, is used. In the illustrated construction irreversible, epicyclic, triple worm gearing of known type, as shown in Fig. 3, is fitted in the interior of the drums d<1> which are driven from the common motor e. A small solenoid brake may be fitted to prevent continued running of the motor armature after the current is cut off.
