Abstract

289,629. Fowler, C. H., and Hodgson, H. April 25, 1927. Alternative prime movers. - A self-propelled cable ploughing tractor is provided with alternative sources of power each of which can drive the winding drum and the road wheels. In the construction shown an internal-combustion engine 2 and an electric motor 3 are provided each of which can drive a bevel pinion 7 through a clutch 6. The bevel pinions drive a cross-shaft 13 through reversing bevel wheels 9 and twospeed chain gear 10, 11, 12, and the shaft 13 can drive (1) the road wheels through two-speed spur gear 14 - - 17 and chain gear 19, or (2) a winding drum 25 through two-speed bevel gear (not shown) and gearing 23. The electric motor is supplied with power from an external source through a cable wound on a drum 5, a voltage transformer 4 being provided on the tractor.
