597,990. Winches. CROSSLEY MOTORS, Ltd., and OWEN, W. Aug. 27, 1945, No. 21925. [Class 78(v)] A winding drum a located in a horizontal underslung position on a motor road vehicle is supported and journalled between a cover m and a plate j which are connected by bolts n, some of which pass through idler wheels h meshing with a gear ring i within the drum and with a gear g on a vertical shaft f driven through worm gearing d, e and gears b, c by the primary shaft of the vehicle gear box. 'The plate j is secured to the chassis frame k by a plate j<1> and has a vertical extension f<1> which forms a_ journal for the shaft f.
