Abstract
343,895. Motor vehicle driving-gear. MANNING & CO., 208, South La SalleStreet, Chicago, U.S.A. Nov. 21,1929, No. 35639. Convention date, March 9. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iii).] Driving-gear particularly adapted for front-wheel drive but not limited thereto comprises a ring gear 19, differential gearing 21, 22 on the toothed side of the ring gear, and a driving pinion 25 which meshes with the ring gear above the axis thereof and on that side of it on which the pinion shaft is disposed so that the said shaft does not cross the driven parts of the differential gear. In the construction shown for a front-wheel drive the engine 6, gear-box 7, and differential casing 11 are bolted together and the differential shafts 20 drive the steering road wheels 3 through cardan shafts 27. The hypoid pinion 25 is mounted on a driving shaft 24 having a bearing 23a housed in the end walls of the casings 7, 11 and secured in place when these casings are bolted together. The casing 11 is formed with a removable cover plate 12 and with brake-drum housings 13.
