Abstract
629,018. Driving gear for electrically propelled rail vehicles. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. March 6, 1947, No. 6322. Convention date, March 6, 1946. [Classes 79 (ii) and 97 (iii)] In a rail vehicle having an axle 2 driven by an electric motor 1, which is mounted on a sub-frame resiliently mounted on the axle, through gearing comprising a pinion and a hollow gear wheel 3 and contained in a casing 5 secured to the motor, a spider 9 fixed to the axle 2 and a universal coupling within the wheel 3 coupling the wheel to arms 10 of the spider, the wheel 3 is rotatably mounted on bearings 6 between hub portions 4 of the wheel and the casing 5. As shown, the bearings 6 are protected by oil seals 14, and a spray ring 15 and oil trap ring 16 protect the inside of the gear wheel 3 and the universal coupling which may be of the spring type.
