Abstract

357,706. Toothed gearing. HERD, W. M., 8, Mellor Road, Birkenhead. July 31, 1930, No. 23056. [Class 80 (i).] In toothed reduction gear for use with electromotors, thearmature shaft 2 drives a pinion 5 gearing with a series of idler pinions 8 engaging an internal toothed ring 7 on the pulley 6. The pinions are carried by rings 10, 11 of which 10 is secured to the motor casing 4 and may replace the usual plate employed to retain the bearings of the shaft 2. In a modification, the ring 10 is channelled and a plate secured to the pulley bears on the bottom of its trough. In another form, the rings 10, 11 bear directly on the shaft, and t h e pulley is supported on their outer edges. The pinions 8 may be stepped to give an increased reduction, the pinion 5 gearing with their larger sections and the ring 7 with their smaller.
