Jib cranes.-To permit raising and lowering the load at creeping speed a supplementary electric or other motor controlled independently of the motor driving the main hoisting drum 1, moves a jockey pulley 8 or the equivalent so as to act upon the hoisting rope 2 in the opposite sense. In one form, the supplementary motor (not shown) drives screw-and-nut gear so as to move a crooshead 9 carrying a sheave in a bight of the hoisting rope, or forming an anchorage for the rope. In a modification the supplementary motor drives screw-and-nut gear for displacing horizontally a jockey pulley engaging the hoisting rope at a point between the hoisting-drum and the jib pulley or pulleys.
