Overhead travellers. -An electric travelling hoist for use in ships' holds and elsewhere comprises a frame 5, 6 carrying the hoisting motor and gear, suspended at each end on vertical pivots 9, 10 from bogies running on a double joist track 18, and the hoisting mecha.- nism is so arranged on the frame that the lifting hook or sling can be raised to the level of the tracks. Each bogie carries a motor 30 driving the wheels 28 through differential gearing. The wheels 28 run on the inner flanges of the joists 18, and flanges 26a on the bogies overhang the outer flanges of the joists, while horizontal wheels 27 engage the inner edges. One bogie may be extended as at 31 to carry the operator's cabin or the control may be from a fixed point. The frame 5, 6 carries the hoisting motor 12 driving the winding drum 14 through chain and worm gearing. The head sheave 21 for the hoisting rope is carried by an arm 17 on the frame projecting upwards between the track joists 18 and pivoted so that the sheave moves laterally as the rope winds on and off the drum.
