Abstract

563,770. Winches &c. CALVERLEY, J. R. Feb. 18, 1943, No. 2689. [Class 78 (v)] A lifting block, rope haulage gear, &c. has a winding drum 13 within which are contained a driving electric motor 17 and reduction gearing 22. The motor casing is fixed to an internal flange 17a on the drum, and the gearing casing to a similar flange 21. The drum shaft 15 bears in a journal 12 at one end of a carriage 10 riding by flanged wheels 11 on an overhead rail. The opposite end of the drum is carried by a similar shaft 24 forming part of the casing of the gearing 22 and bearing in a similar journal 12. The motor shaft 18 is coaxial with the drum shaft and with the input and output shafts of the gearing 22, the latter 25 of which is held rigid with the frame 10 by a locking bracket 26. A solenoid-operated brake 19 grips the motor shaft 18 and determines what proportion of the power output shall be transmitted to the drum.
