Variabde-speed toothed gearing comprises constant-mesh gears on driving, intermediate, and driven shafts b, c, d respectively, and a clutch key n sliding on the shaft d. The shaft c is driven continuously from a gear e fast on the shaft b. Gears j, i, k loose on the shaft d are driven continuously by gears h, g, f fast on the shaft c. A loose gear l meshes with and is driven reversely by a gear m fast on the shaft b. The key n has clutch heads q, q<1> at its ends for engaging the gears l, k, respectively, and clutch projections n<1>, n<2> for engaging and being driven by the gears j, i.
