Abstract

Valves.-In a four-strokecycle engine having a rotary sleeve valve 4 surrounding the piston with a single port 5 for admission and exhaust, the peripheral dimension of the port is extended at u, where it is finally uncovered by the piston, in order that the area of port opening may increase approximately in proportion to the volume swept by the piston. The valve is balanced bv providing a dummy port in a part of the sleeve below the cylinder ports.
