Abstract

1495273 Sound insulation BESTOBELL AVIATION PRODUCTS Ltd 14 March 1975 [29 April 1974] 18625/74 Heading F2X [Also in Division E1] An acoustic barrier for use, e.g. around machinery, comprises a number of frames, e.g. 2, each with at least three sides (four as shown) to which are attached, along at least two opposed sides, by touch and close fasteners, acoustic shields comprising, e.g. a sheet 15 of flexible glass cloth impregnated with a lead-loaded vinyl and backed with a sheet 16 of urethane foam. As shown, a shield is attached by strip fasteners along three sides, and by hooks 17 along the top, so that the shield swings open when a workman throws himself at the barrier in the direction 18. Adjacent frames are clipped or welded together, e.g. and a right-angled corner frame may be used. A housing may have a ceiling similarly constructed, and the walls thereof may contain sliding doors and/or some shields which are fixed by touch and close fasteners along all sides, which can be blown out in the event of an explosion. Reinforced rubber may be used for the shield, as an alternative.
