Abstract
1,150,320. Folding doors. PANELFOLD DOORS Inc. 13 May, 1966 [14 May, 1965], No. 21431/66. Heading E1J. An accordion-type folding door comprises hinged panel assemblies 24 and 26 each consisting of wooden panels 28 connected by elongate flexible hinge members 32 and having a partial or complete inner lining 34 of, eg., foam rubber. The panel assemblies are interconnected by upper plates 36 pivotally connected at their ends to the panels and each supported via a vertical shaft 50 (Fig. 4, not shown) on a roller 58 which runs in an overhead track 44, and lower bars 70 pivotally connected at each end to the assemblies. Flexible sealing sheets, e.g. 122 (Fig. 4) of e.g., plastics material, are connected to the upper and lower edges of the assemblies to form seals with the ceiling and floor respectively, the ceiling, eg., having a lower area corresponding to the dotted lines in the Fig., so that when the panels extend out of this area on opening the door, any vacuum built up inside the door is broken. Chains 84 con nect the upper plates 36 together, and the lead post 96 and the jamb 22 carry hollow vertical sealing strips.
