Abstract

1,131,362. Flexible hinges; folding doors. PANELFOLD DOORS Inc. 29 Sept., 1965, No. 41309/65. Headings E1J and E2F. A hollow flexible hinge strip of a vinyl plastic has flanges 58 engaged in grooves in the edges of panels 42 of a folding door. The flanges may have V-shaped beads 60 engaging enlarged passages 46 thereby preventing the flanges from being pulled out of the grooves. Tapered flaps 62 engage the panel edges and form effective seals. Projections 56 stiffen the outer wall 50 of the hinge strip. In an alternative form Fig. 4 (not shown) the flanges 36 have ribs 38 inclined towards the wall 26 instead of the beads 60; in this form adhesive may be used to assist fixing the flanges 36 in the grooves. The resilience of the hinge strip assists in keeping the door panels in the unfolded position. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,064,191.
