Abstract

922,196. Jointed panel assemblies. O. S. TUTTLE. Nov. 3, 1960 [June 17, 1960], No. 37801/60. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group XVII] Two intersecting wall panels 10, 12 of a box are joined by a metallic frame element 31 fixed to one wall and having a flange 32 entering into a recess in the edge of the other wall and adhesively bonded therein. The panels have metal or plastics facing sheets 20 and a honeycomb, foamed plastics or plywood core 21, and the intersecting edges are provided with recesses or slots 29 and joined by a T-, Y-, or L-sectioned extruded strip 31 the flanges 32 of which fit into the slots 29 which are initially filled with adhesive 33. A frame 40 extends around the periphery of the top 11 of the box and has a groove 42 coacting with latches 15 on the walls 13, and a flange 43 adhesively bonded to the core. The upper edges of the walls are sealed by a frame 45 with a channel 46 carrying a gasket 47, the frame having a flange 49 adhesively bonded into slots in the edges of the walls. The cover may be connected to one wall by a piano hinge, each member of which has a flange connected to the core of the wall and lid respectively. Fig. 8 shows a shelf or partition 110 connected to a wall 111 by a frame element 112 secured to the wall by screws 115 and having a flange 114 cemented to a slot in the edge of the shelf.
