Abstract

853,100. Refrigerators. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. June 3, 1959 [June 10, 1958], No. 18924/59. Class 29 Relates to panels for refrigerators formed from a core 17 of low density material such as foamed polyurethane or expanded polystyrene to which are adhesively secured inner and outer shells 18, 19 of dense material e.g. aluminium sheet, polystyrene sheet, or glass reinforced polyester sheet, the cabinet being formed from a panel notched and bent round to form the top, bottom and side walls. According to the invention, the panel is reinforced around the front edge by a strip 13, e.g. of aluminium, formed with spaced flanges 22, 23 cemented into grooves cut in the edge of body 17, flange 22 having a groove cut therein to receive the edge of outer shell 19. Strip 13 also has a groove 31 to receive one edge of polystyrene trim strip 30 the other edge of which is cemented or screwed to inner shell 18. Bolts 34 take into tapped holes in strip 13 and secure the door hinges 16 to the cabinet body.
