Wheel guards and obstruction-removers for motor omnibuses and other motor - vehicles comprise a front guard Q with a lower pivoted extension R adapted to be locked in the depressed position when an obstacle is encountered by the engagement of pawls with curved ratchet arms B. The pawls are carried by extensions G of the lower guard R pivoted at F to the spring- mounted supports A of the upper guard. The arms G project through the slotted ratchet arms B and are retained in the normal position by springs L. A central buffer 0 with a lip member P, and road wheels N are provided on the lower guard, which can be re-set by the driver by the operation of handle K to release the pawls from the ratchet arms.
