Abstract
506,319. Jacking-appliances on vehicles. MINICONI, H. J. Oct. 3, 1938, No. 28667. [Class 79 (iii)] A pivoted segment 1, adapted on engagement with the ground to be rocked to raise a vehicle wheel by slight rearward movement of the vehicle, is normally maintained by yielding -locking means, such as a spring-pressed bolt 8, Fig. 5, in the inoperative' position shown in which it is clear of the ground whilst the tyre is inflated but engages the ground on deflation, being then responsive to rearward movement of the vehicle to raise the wheel. The bolt 8, carried by the supporting bracket 4 clamped to the axle, is pressed into a V-shaped recess 10 in the face of the hub 7 of the segment, yielding to the movement of the vehicle when the segment is in engagement with the ground and serving to restore the segment to its inoperative position when the segment is thrown back by forward movement of the vehicle after tyre or wheel replacement. The segment, which is of metal, is formed with peripheral serrations and a reinforcing bulge 6.
