Abstract

464,159. Vehicle wheels. WHITEHOUSE, J., and HILL, W. Dec. 18, 1935, No. 35062. [Class 144 (i)] A device for attachment to pneumatic-tyred wheels of tractors or other vehicles comprises groundengaging cleats 21 formed or fitted on arms 15 pivoted on a sleeve 13 which is rotatably mounted on the boss 11 of a disc 5 detachably secured, as by claw-bolts 6, to the wheel-rim. Bolts 18, preferably fitted with roller-sleeves, project from the disc through slots 17 in the arms 15, and the device is locked in adjusted positions by the engagement of a spring- loaded detent 26 with a rack 29 on the edge of the sleeve 13. In the construction shown, the sleeve is adjusted by hand, but it is stated that mechanical devices such as a brake-band or a clutch, co - operating with the sleeve, and actuated from the driver's seat, may be used.
