Abstract
376,880. Turning motor vehicles in confined spaces. VAAL, R. DE, 110<6>, Agniezestraat, Rotterdam, and BRINKERS, H. C., 27, Molenweg B, Zegwaard, both in Holland. May 12, 1931, No. 14015. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1930. [Class 79 (iii).] When the front end of a motor vehicle is raised by means of jacks 2 adapted to run on swivelled wheels or castors 11, the vehicle may be turned within a confined space by driving one rear wheel whilst braking the other, independent brakes being necessary for this purpose. According to the invention, there is further provided adjacent to one or each rear wheel and independently operated jack 3 having a foot 19 adapted to engage the ground to form a pivot about which the vehicle may be turned, ball bearings 18 being introduced to reduce friction. The jacks shown are hydraulically operated by controls 7 from the driver's seat but screw or other forms of jacks may be substituted.
