Abstract

Stands or supports.-A device for enabling a. vehicle to be turned in confined spaces comprises two air-pressure jacks attached to the frame rearward of the front wheels and fitted with wheels 1 the angle of which is adjustable for steering. When a push-cock 25 on the dash-board is operated, compressed air passes from a reservoir 15 to the jack cylinders 6, and the pistons and wheels 1 descend raising the front road wheels 10<a>. The pistons have Y-grooves 13a, Fig. VI, and guide grooves 54, 55. Projections 11 on the inside of the cylinders engage the grooves 13a, and after a certain vertical descent pass into one of the branches 51, 13, and so cause the pistons and wheels to turn either right or left. The direction is determined by pins 52, 53, Fig. VII, adapted to engage the guide grooves. They are carried by a lever 56 operated by a piston valve 22 communicating with a cock 26, by operating or not operating which the direction of turning is regulated. The driving wheels of the car remain on the ground and are utilized to turn the car in a forward or backward direction.
