Abstract

287,231. Clifford, V. J. Dec. 16, 1926. Stands or supports for vehicles adapted to facilitate turning in confined spaces comprise a wheel or wheels a mounted on a vertical member d which is reciprocable by hydraulic or air pressure and may also be turned on its axis. Preferably the member d is hollow and slides in a cylinder g, which may be rotated by worm gear i, j connected to the steering column or other control. A plate d<11> closes the upper end of the member d, which is reciprocated by the pressure of fluid admitted to one side or the other of a fixed piston r by pipes t, u. The device is secured to the front axle c of the vehicle. Apparatus for use on the back axle in conjunction with the above is shown in Fig. 5. A hydraulicallyoperated rack 13 gears with a wheel 14 connected with a pivoted arm y by a chain 11. The arm carries a wheel which thus takes the weight when the arm is pulled into the vertical.
