Abstract

532,868. Jacking - appliances on vehicles. ALTON, E. A. July 14, 1939, No. 20498. [Class 79 (iii)] Apparatus for jacking-up and manoeuvring a motor vehicle comprises at each end of the vehicle a leg 14 provided with a castor wheel 15, the leg being pivoted to a transverse frame member 11 and operated by an hydraulic cylinder 19, either leg when in the operative position raising its end of the vehicle off the ground, the other end being supported by the wheels at the end. In the construction shown the leg 14 is pivoted at 13 to the member 11 and its upper end is pivoted at 17 to a plunger 18 working in the hydraulic cylinder 19 pivoted to the frame at 22. The leg is lowered to the operative position shown by pressure controlled by a valve 20 and is raised by a spring 24. A stop 25 determines the limiting position of the leg. The castor wheel on the leg at the rear of the vehicle may be rotated by sprocket gear to manoeuvre the vehicle. Two hydraulic cylinders may be provided one to lower and the other to raise the legs. A hand or powered-operated pump may be used.
