Abstract

1,082,138. Pallet trucks. EATON YALE & TOWNE Inc. March 22, 1965 [March 24, 1964], No. 12024/65. Addition to 958,184. Heading B8H. In a pallet truck in which hydraulic rams 29, 34, Fig. 1, for raising the inner ends of the tines 22 and for lowering the wheels 31 at the outer ends of the tines, respectively, are connected in series by lines 39, as described in the parent Specification No. 958,184, means are provided for automatically connecting the line 39 to the line 37 from the pump unit 36 when the rams are in their fully retracted positions. As shown in Fig. 3, the piston rod of the ram 29 extends through the piston 29b and is formed with a bore 45 containing a valve 46 and with bores 50, 51, 52 connecting the valve 46 with the cylinder space below the piston. As the ram reaches its fully retracted position, the stem 49 of the valve 46 is engaged by a fitting 40 in the end of the ram cylinder and moved down against the action of a spring 48 to allow fluid to pass from the line 37 through the piston 29b into the ram cylinder and into the line 39 between the lower side of the ram 29 and the ram 34, thereby ensuring that the system is properly filled with fluid before the tines are elevated. As the ram 29 starts to extend, the check valve 46 is closed by the spring 48.
