Abstract

1,202,317. Hydraulic lifts for vehicles. HENRY J. FIRMAN Ltd. 30 April, 1969 [16 April, 1968; 9 July, 1968], Nos. 17744/68 and 32717/68. Heading B8E. A vehicle tail-gate 1, Fig. 1, is raised and lowered by hydraulic rams 4 which are pivoted to the tail-gate at 12 and are provided with carriages 3 which run in tubular guides 2. Fig. 7 shows an embodiment in which the guides 3 comprise a pair of side-plates 19 to which the piston rod 7 of the ram 5 is coupled by a nut 21 which provides a lost-motion connection. Fluid may be supplied to the rams 4 as shown in Fig. 4 in which R and P are reservoir and pump, NVR is a non-return valve, and PRV 1 and PRV 2 are pressure release valves. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), fluid is first supplied to a pair of auxiliary cylinders which have their piston rods attached to a common cross-head. This ensures that an equal amount of fluid reaches each of the rams 4.
