[Also in Group XXXII] In a pallet truck, the cylinder 15 of an hydraulic ram 15, 30 which raises the platform constitutes a king post for the front steerable wheels 13. Fluid is pumped from the reservoir 16 to the cylinder 15 by a pump (not shown) actuated by a pedal 49, and is returned to the reservoir by opening a relief valve [not shown) through a pedal 70. This valve, which also opens under excess pressure, is located in a housing 64 which also contains a device for inducing turbulence in the flow of oil to control its velocity (see Group XXXII). The piston-rod 30 is pivoted at 35 to a member 34 which supports the inner ends of a pair of tines 81 and which is connected to the head by levers 78 pivoted to the truck head at 80 and to the member 34 at 79. These levers have extension 87 which, by means of rods 95 housed within the tubular tines 81, extend and retract wheels (not shown) mounted at the free ends of the tines.
