Abstract

1,040,073. Low-lift trucks. EATON YALE & TOWNE Inc. April 30, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 16912/63. Heading B8H. A pallet truck comprises fork arms 21 secured to a frame 22 connected to an hydraulic ram assembly 15 on a lifting head 10 which is supported on wheels 13 and is rotatable about a vertical axis. The lifting head 10 comprises a frame 12 supporting the hydraulic ram 15 and a pump assembly 16, actuated by a steering handle 17 pivoted on the frame 12, the lifting head being rotatable in bearings on a plate 34 through which an extension 14 of the frame 12 supporting the wheels 13 extends. Links 18, 19 are pivoted to a crosshead on the pump piston and to a pair of a series of alternative pairs of positions on the handle 17. A coil spring 20 surrounding the pump and acting on the crosshead serves to counterbalance the weight of the handle 17. A foot pedal 79 is provided on a shaft rotatably mounted in the frame 12 and, in one position, opens a ball valve to allow passage of fluid from the ram cylinder to the reservoir thereby causing lowering of the fork arms, the rate of lowering being limited by a spool valve, Fig. 8 (not shown), and, in a second position opens a ball valve to connect the pump with the reservoir so that oscillation of the handle 17 is ineffective to raise the fork arms.
