The outer ends of the tines 22 of a pallet truck are supported by wheels 31 on pivoted arms 32 which are lowered by hydraulic rams 34 when hydraulic rams 29 are extended to raise a frame 23, 25, 26 supporting the inner ends of the tines relative to a support 11 on which a rotatable steering and traction unit 15 is mounted. Shafts 28, secured between the frame members 23, 26 extend through tubes 12 extending upwardly from the support 11 and the rams 29 extend between the member 26 and brackets 30 on the tubes 12. The pistonrods of rams 34 are pivotally connected by pins 42 to the wheel-supporting arms 32 which are pivotally connected by pins 33 to the tines 22. The rams 34 are each held on a seat 37 carried in an opening 39 in a support member 40 which is secured between the sides of the tine and springs 41 extending between the member 40 and the pin 42 serve to hold the ram on the seat and to retract the ram when the fluid is released from the ram. A combined electric pump and reservoir unit 47 is connected by lines 48, 49 to the upper ends of the cylinders 29a of rams 29 and the lower ends of the cylinders are connected by lines 50, 52 to the rams 34. The steering and traction unit 15 includes an electric motor 18 controlled by switches on the operating handle 19. Each tine is provided with a pallet-clamping roller 54, Fig. 7, mounted on an arm 55 which is pivoted at 56 to a bracket 57 secured to the tine, and which is urged downwardly by a spring 59.
