Abstract
857,706. Masted lift trucks. YEREINIGTE WESTDEUTSCHE WAGGONFABRIKEN A.G. March 4, 1957 [March 28, 1956], No. 7140/57. Class 78 (3). A lift truck mast assembly comprises a stationary section 1 in which is formed the cylinder for the lifting ram piston 5, a movable section 2 which is guided on section 1 and a lifting carriage 3 provided with rollers 17 which are guided on section 2. A lifting chain 8 is attached to the carriage and passes over a pulley 7 on piston-rod 6, which is secured to section 2, to an anchorage at 24 on section 1. A bore 25 returns any fluid which may pass above the piston 5 back to the reservoir through a pipe 57, and the lower end of the piston is shaped to provide a cushioning movement at the bottom of the stroke in the event of a sudden reduction of pressure in the pipe line 49. The mast is tilted forwardly and rearwardly by a jack 55 and arms 51 which swing the rear wheel axle 50 about an axis 52. In a modification (Fig. 11, not shown), the fork is mounted on the carriage 3 for pivoting movement through 90 degrees about a vertical axis.
