Abstract

258,402. Overton, J. Aug. 10, 1925. Skid. - A skid brake for vehicles comprises for each rear wheel a pair of wedgeshaped shoes adapted respectively to be engaged between the wheel and the ground by a single control member to check forward or rearward movement of the vehicle. The shoes 1, 2 are carried by bell-crank levers 4 pivoted at 5 on brackets 6 depending from the chassis 7. The levers 4 are coupled together by a rod 9 and by a rod 12 to a nut 14 on a screwed rod 16 rotated by gearing 18, 19 and a hand-wheel 21, whereby either of the shoes can be lowered into operative position. A second rod 12 extends from the nut 14 to a similarly arranged pair of shoes for the other rear wheel. Each shoe is provided with a roller 10 and with spaced transverse rubber insertions on its upper and lower surfaces.
