497,886. Preventing slipping of wheels; skid brakes. PINDER, J. Dec. 30,1937, No. 36088. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Groups X and XXXIV] In anti-skid devices for road vehicles of the type in which a pivotally mounted roadengaging member is adapted to be raised from or lowered to the road surface bv means under the control of the driver, road-engaging members 11, Figs. I and 3, are pivoted to levers 7, connected by rods 9, 10 and integral with pinions 13 rotatable on brackets 6 attached to the rear-axle tube 5. The members 11 are lowered against the action of springs 17 by rotation of toothed quadrants 14 gearing with the pinions 13 on the brackets 6, and operated by means of rods 16. The members 11 are shaped at 12 to provide portions extending in front of the rear wheels and are constituted by metal brushes. A spring 18 is provided between each member 11 and lever 7. The brushes may be replaced by members having roughened surfaces or including carborundum and the two members 11 may be replaced by a single large member extending between the wheels.
