Skid and scotch block. - A scotch block n adapted to be lowered into engagement with the wheel of a vehicle to prevent backward running of the vehicle is provided with one or more rollers s and with a slidable spike u adapted to be forced into the ground by the engagement of the wheel therewith. A block n is provided for each rear wheel, the pair being pivotally mounted on a transverse bar m to which is connected on each side of the vehicle a lever k having a pin-andslot connection l with the chassis. For raising and lowering the blocks, a bell-crank lever i carries a roller held in engagement with the lever k bv a strap o on the lever i, which is connected by linkage h<1>, f<2> to a hand lever c provided with a locking pawl b. Each block is further supported in the raised position by the engagement of a springy arm r with the bar m, each arm being connected by a rod r<2> to the lever i. The blocks may have teeth v to bite into the ground.
