Abstract

Aug. 14, 1928, Skid.-In a device for preventing the running back of motor vehicles on hills, of the kind in which a pair of scotch blocks is adapted to be lowered into engagement between the wheels and the track, the scotch blocks a are connected by a transverse bar c secured to a pair of rods comprising parts d, f of which the part f is bent to fit over the axle casing g and is connected to the part d by a screw and nut device j to permit adjustment of the length of the rod according to the diameter of the wheels. The curvature of the part f is greater than that of the axle over which it fits to enable the blocks to clear the wheels in the raised position. The blocks are normally held in the raised position by a cable n connected to a hand lever or to a winding-drum and passing over pulleys p, l, k, the pulleys p, l being carried by a bar m secured to the chassis. For use on icecovered roads a serrated metal shoe may be secured to each block or a forked metal strip providing a spike on each side of the block may be secured to each block.
