Abstract

268,696. Nicin, V. Dec. 18, 1926. Slipping of wheels, and overturning, preventing.-The adhesion of the road wheels of a motor vehicle is varied by altering the air-pressure beneath the vehicle by means of a compressor or exhauster. By reducing the air-pressure, slipping of the wheels due to. slippery road surface or excessive driving or braking torque, and alsooverturning of the vehicle on corners, is prevented, and by increasing the air-pressure the vehicle may be prevented from settling into soft ground. A four-walled compartment a, b is mounted on and beneath the vehicle, the walls being hinged to fold up when the compartment is not required. The side and lower edges of the walls make air-tight contact with each other and with the ground by means of rubber &c. strips g and the walls are raised by cables such as l, the front and rear walls being connected by a link m. The compartment is connected by a pipe D and valve E to a reservoir C, the air in which is maintained at a reduced or increased pressure by an exhauster or compressor A driven from the vehicle.
