Abstract
372,488. Road vehicles. MORRIS COMMERCIAL CARS, Ltd., HAMILL, W. W., and JENKINS, W. H., Foundry Lane Works, Soho, Birmingham. March 20, 1931, No. 8557. [Class 108 (ii).] Lifting weight off springs.-In self-propelled vehicles having two rear axles only one of which is a driving axle, provision is made for supporting the non-driving axle clear of the road when the vehicle is lightly loaded, so as to apply the whole load to the other axle and thereby obtain sufficient adhesion for driving purposes. Each end of the non-driving axle may be engaged by a pivoted hook a, the two hooks being operated simultaneously from a cross shaft d. When engaging or disengaging the hooks, the wheels on the non-driving axle may be run up ramps. The usual inverted compensating springs on each side of the vehicle are then fixed at one end and in the middle and function as full cantilever springs on the driving axle. Steel cables, screw-and-nut mechanism, worm gearing or other mechanism may be used instead of the hooks.
