499,426. Preventing slipping of wheels. BEAVAN, J. Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31575. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] An emergency brake for motor road vehicles comprises a rear brake shoe or shoes arranged to engage the road and having a longitudinally extending skate-like blade or blades which projects below the road-engaging surface of the shoe and a fluid-pressure operated shate-like blade mounted on each front wheel stub-axle, these blades serving to prevent lateral movement of the vehicle. Mounted adjacent each rear wheel 1 is a brake shoe 2 vertically movable to engage the road under the driver's control as described in Specification 464,512, [Group XXXIV]. Each shoe has a pair of blades 30 extending below the road-engaging surface 12 of the shoe. Each front wheel stub-axle carries a cylinder 31 and piston 32 to which is pivoted at 34 a skatelike blade 33 which engages the road when pressure-fluid is supplied to the cylinder. Springs 36 hold the blade and piston normally in the raised position.
