Abstract

139,275. Swift, E. Feb. 11, 1919. Wheel guards.-Relates to safety guards for motor and like vehicles, of the kind in which a separate guard H for each wheel is mounted on a vertical pivot so as to turn laterally to deflect obstacles encountered, and is provided with a lower spring-controlled flap or extension G<1>. The guard is pivoted in a clip C at the end of an arm B extending from the axle by means of a bolt E passing through holes in the clip C and through a hollow vertical pin D attached to the guard. A spring (not shown) is arranged between the guard and the arm B or other suitable point of the vehicle, so as to restore the guard to its original position after it has cast an obstacle aside. The lower flap G<1> is controlled by springs G at its junction with the main guard H.
