Abstract

285,461. Le Nevey, L. F., A. Feb. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Lateral-splash guards for vehicles comprise a carrier-ring 2, Fig. 1, on which are mounted rollers 2a adapted to run on a track-ring 3 secured to the vehicle wheel, the guard 1 being secured to the ring 2 by hinge joints 5a, or ball and socket joints, which permit play transversely of their axis. The front external edge of the guard is concentric to the wheel while the rear edge is substantially parallel to the ground. The height of the guard from the ground may be adjusted by bolts 5b movable in slots in a plate 5 and the guard is supported clear of the wheel by springs 6, Fig. 2. The track ring 3 is secured to the wheel by snap-fasteners and the rollers 2a are adjusted relatively to the carrier-ring 2 by means of the roller-pivot being movable in a slot in the ring. A rear guard 4 is secured on one side to the ring 2 and on the other side to a frame projecting from the wheel journal or a member fixed thereto, the guard being supported in the frame by means of a spring clip engaging a rod' 7 so that when the guard 1 strikes an obstruction and moves rearwardly. the rod 7 is forced out of the clip, and when the guard returns to its normal position the clip engages the rod. Movement of the guard is restricted by a link 9 secured to a fixed part of the vehicle.
