Abstract

280,367. Rawding, J. W. Nov. 24, 1926. Lateral-splash guards for vehicle wheels comprise a pair of guard members 10 pivotally mounted at 12 on a support 6 and adapted to be turned entirely out of the operative position by hand-operated means, the support being pivotally mounted so that the guard may be moved bodily clear of the wheel to give access thereto and means being provided to retain the guard in the desired position. The members 10 of leather &c. are carried by frames 11 having slots 15 engaged by hooks 14 on a slide 13 which is adapted to be moved upwards on the support 6, against spring action, by the inextensible member 17 of Bowden mechanism actuated by a hand-lever 19. The support 6 is pivoted at 7 to a bracket 21 on the mud-guard 8 so that it may be swung into the position shown in dotted lines, the guard being held in the operative and inoperative positions by the engagement of a spring catch with notches 23 in the end of the support. Guards may be provided on the outer and inner sides of the wheel and, according to the Provisional Specification, the guard members on each side may be integrally or otherwise connected by end portions so as to surround the lower portion of the wheel, the guard being readily detachable to give access to - thewheel.
