Abstract
1391386 Hatch covers for ships KVAERNER BRUG AS 18 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 18836/73 Heading E2M In a folding cover system for ships hatches, cover sections 2, 3 and 4 are hingedly interconnected, a first section 2 being hinged at a point 5 connected to the ship's deck such that the first section 2 may be pivoted together with the second section 3 into a vertical position (Fig. 3) with the lower faces of the two sections facing each other, the third section 4 which is hingedly connected to the second section 3 may be pivoted to a vertical position with their top faces facing each other, the movements of the cover sections being effected by hydraulic piston and cylinder devices 9 and 16 mounted between the hatch coaming on the deck 7 and the first and third sections, respectively. A lever 18, which is pivotable about a fixed point 19 by the hydraulic device 16, is provided near the free end of the lever 18 with a claw 22 adapted to receive a pin 15 on the third cover section 4 when the first and second sections 2 and 3 are nearing their vertical position. The lever 18 is in the form of a ramp on which a running wheel 13 on the second cover section may trail during the opening operation.
