Abstract
725,457. Boat handling gear. MACGREGOR, R. April 2, 1953 [Jan. 26, 1953], No. 9155/53. Class 115. [Also in Group XXX] Means for facilitating the hoisting and lowering of small craft to and from ships by derricks constructed so as to prevent collision while permitting relative movement due to swell comprises an articulated boom having a first section pivoted to the ship so that it can assume various positions and a second section hinged to the first section to extend outwardly in various positions and terminating in means for attachment to the craft. Auxiliary cargo carrying craft 6 are stored in a ship and are launched at sea by derricks 2 to 2<SP>111</SP>, having pulley tackle 5 for engaging the craft and operating winches 7 to 7<SP>111</SP>. The craft when launched, to prevent bumping, is attached to the ship by a linkage 10 pivoted on the ship. and pivoted to a member 14 pivotally mounted on a pintle 16 on the craft. A rope 17 is secured to the member 14 and passes over a pulley 12 to an achorage on the ship to restore the member to its inoperative position 141.
