Abstract

1429395 Ship's accommodation ladder WELIN AB 23 Oct 1973 49264/73 Heading E1S A ship's accommodation ladder comprises a ladder 1 pivotably mounted at its upper end on a platform 2 at the deck level, wires 7-10 suspending the lower end of the ladder from at least one davit 4, 5, and a further platform 6 pivotally connected to the lower end of the ladder about a horizontal axis 17, the wires 7-10 being attached to the platform 6 to both sides of this axis, and the platform 6 having an access opening 11. The wires extend from corners of the platform 6 and round sheaves on the davits to a winch 16 with separate drums which may be controlled from the platform, the pivot axis 17 being inwardly of one edge of the platform. For embarkation by a pilot at sea, a further ladder 12 is attached below the opening 11. For embarkation from a quay, an opening is formed in the guard railing 14 on the platform 6, and a pivoted flap (18) (Fig. 2, not shown) which normally closes this opening is lowered to cover the opening 11. The platform 2 and davits 4, 5 are mounted on a common axle 3 on the deck for stowing the assembly.
