Abstract

138,189. White, J., and Payne, H. H. Feb. 28, 1919. Breech-actions, drop-down barrel.-Relates to ejecting-mechanism for drop-down guns of the type in which the fore-end carries a rocking extractor-kicker adapted, when the gun is opened, to be actuated by a sliding member co-operating with the hammer, and consists in making the sliding member independent of the means for cocking the hammer. In the form shown, as applied to a gun of the type described in Specification 137,662, the hammer, on falling, pushes forward a rod b slidable in the body a, and causes a tooth d on the rod to engage a notch of the pivoted extractorkicker c, so that when the barrel is broken down, the kicker e is first rocked forwardly, stressing the spring h until it slips out of engagement with the tooth d; it is then urged rearwardly by the spring h to strike the extractor and eject the cartridge case. The rod b is returned to its rearward position by the hammer e as the notch j slips off the tooth d, and is frictionally retained in either of its positions.
