Abstract

279,852. Bourth, V. Oct. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breechblock.-The breech chamber 1, Fig. 3, of an automatic piston is closed at the back by a plug 20 and is internally cylindrical and formed with two longitudinal grooves 23, one at each side, to guide the breech-block 3, which is impelled forwards by a coiled spring 5 having in cross section the shape shown in Fig. 8, the two lateral ears 44 of this spring being adapted to fit into the grooves 23. When a shot is fired, the breech-block is thrust back and a pivoted tooth 30, Fig. 7, depending from it strikes one arm 24 of a bellcrank lever, the other arm 25 of which ejects the spent cartridge, after which the breech-block is returned forwards by its spring 5. A cover 28 attached to the breech-block opens and shuts the ejection opening when the breech-block moves backwards and forwards. When the magazine is empty, a book 37 following the cartridges in the magazine lifts a spring catch 33 into a notch 32 in the breech-block and stops it in the open position. The magazine can then be reloaded, after which the catch 33 is disengaged by means of a cam 41 worked by a knob at the side of the breech. A firing pin 7 is arranged in the breech-block and is adapted to be struck by a hammer 4, which is guided by lateral lugs sliding in the ears 44 of the spring 5, and is connected to the breech-block by a coiled spring 6. The hook 19 of the sear 17 engages a lip in the back of the hammer, and a hook 14 at the end of a rod 15 attached to the sear engages a spring tooth 12 on the trigger 8, which is pivoted at 9 and controlled by a spring 10. If the trigger is kept pulled, the hammer 4 is made by the spring 6 to follow the forward stroke of the breech-block with a certain lag, and shots are fired automatically in succession. When the trigger is released, the hammer is retained cocked while the breech closes. The back of the stock is closed by a plate 46.
